SANTA CLARA, Calif. – November, 2008 – Silicon Valley Power (SVP), in partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), announced today Santa Clara Convention Center will participate in its clean renewable energy program Santa Clara Green Power. Santa Clara Convention Center will purchase one-half of the output of one large-scale wind turbine, on an annual basis.
Derived from clean wind and solar generation sources and certified by Green-e Energy, the Santa Clara Convention Center’s renewable power commitment – 1608 MWh’s annually – makes the Santa Clara Convention Center a member of the U.S. EPA’s Green Power Partnership. “We are pleased by the Santa Clara Convention Center’s participation in Santa Clara Green Power, one of the largest commitment to renewable energy to date by one of our utility customers,” said Larry Owens of SVP. “We hope other businesses in our community will join in supporting Santa Clara Green Power.”
The Santa Clara Convention Center’s clean power commitment will provide environmental savings through preventing the release of 933 tons of carbon dioxide, a key greenhouse gas. This is the climate impact equivalent to planting 777 acres of forest or taking 171 cars off the road for one year.
“The commitment to renewable power is an extension of a broad set of initiatives we’ve implemented to conserve energy and minimize our impact on the environment,” said Ken Winland, Director of Operations for the Santa Clara Convention Center.
